RevolutionParts Releases 2023 Parts Department Insights Report

PHOENIX, AZ, January 19th, 2023—RevolutionParts surveyed over 100 dealers across the United States to gain insights into the performance of parts departments within new car dealerships.

The survey found that only 25% of dealers sell OEM parts and accessories through a dedicated web store, and 56% sell parts and accessories through their dealership website, showing a significant difference in where dealers sell parts online.

“The online parts market is booming, and OEM parts are in high demand. This report shows that only a quarter of new car dealerships are selling parts online, highlighting the opportunity for new car dealers to generate new revenue with parts eCommerce,” says Ibrahim Mesbah, CEO of RevolutionParts.

The nationwide survey, conducted in Q4 of 2022, provides valuable information for dealers and their parts departments. With this information, they are better positioned to create new goals and strategies to drive revenue.

The report also found that:

  • 23% of dealers are implementing marketing strategies for their parts department
  • 66% of General Managers saw selling parts online as an important strategy
  • 43% of Parts Managers were concerned about the rise in EV sales
  • 45% of parts departments are experiencing a staffing shortage

The online parts market totaled $19.2B in revenue for 2022 and is expected to reach $35B by 2030, underscoring the growing demand for parts eCommerce. Respondents to this survey state that selling parts online is an important strategy for driving revenue. However, most dealers selling online are selling through their dealership website, which can often have a limited reach to online buyers.

“Time and time again, we have seen dealers have the most success selling through a dedicated web store,” says Ibrahim. “Dealers are able to market their products to a nationwide audience, where a dealership website traditionally only serves a local market.”
